He Is Looking for You Too

The landowner goes out to the marketplace again and again. He does not give up even on those whose day is nearly over. He sees the people still standing there, speaks to them, and gives them a place in his vineyard. This is how Jesus reveals the Father: not as a distant employer, but as the Lord who personally sets out in search of us.

Ezekiel’s words bring this mystery even closer: “I myself will search for my sheep.” God does not pass your care on to someone else. In Christ he comes after you, enters your lostness, and carries the weight of your life as the Good Shepherd. He finds you not because you have already put yourself in order, but because you belong to him.

The early workers begin to grumble when relationship turns into bookkeeping. If you constantly compare yourself with others, even a gift can seem too small. Yet today Jesus does not place another person’s wage in your hands; he gives you himself. His nearness is not diminished because he is merciful to someone else too.

Perhaps you are tired because you are trying to do too many things at once. Let the Good Shepherd call you into a slower rhythm today. You do not have to prove that you deserve your place. Stop for a few minutes and allow him to find you first; then go from that love to the person who needs your care today.
