He Comes toward You in the Headwind
Do not call calm what feels stormy within you today. Jesus is not waiting on shore for you to reach him alone; he is already coming toward you across the waves.

Today’s Devotional
The disciples are not imagining the headwind. The boat is truly battered by waves, the night is dark, and their strength is fading. Jesus does not tell them there is nothing to fear. He enters the very thing they fear and speaks there: “It is I.” His presence is not false calm; it is something firm to hold in the middle of reality.
For a while Peter keeps his eyes on Jesus, then notices the wind. He begins to sink. You may know this moment: after trust comes the renewed weight of everything you cannot control. Peter offers no polished prayer. He cries out. Jesus does not wait for him to gather stronger faith; he immediately reaches out his hand.
Today’s reading warns us against easy comfort. Not every reassuring sentence is true, and faith is not a covering placed over trouble. In Christ you can face reality without facing it alone. He may not remove the headwind at once, but he will not allow the depths to speak the final word over you.
When you feel solid ground again, do not let his love stop with you. A truthful sentence, an honest decision, or a hand you extend to someone else can reveal the heart of God. You do not need to do something grand. Simply walk uprightly today in the light you have received.
Faith does not deny the waves; it takes hold of the hand of Jesus.
Name one real headwind you have tried to minimize with comforting words. Say plainly to Jesus: “Lord, this is where I am sinking. Save me.” Remain quiet, then take the one truthful and honest step that is yours to take today.

You Are Lord above the Depths
Heavenly FatherHeavenly Father, we praise you because your wisdom never deceives and your mercy never abandons us. You know even the hidden wind that batters our hearts at night.
We bless you because your faithfulness remains straight when our path looks crooked. In your hands even suffering is not meaningless debris; your grace can turn it toward our salvation.
Lord Jesus ChristLord Jesus Christ, we magnify you because you walk above the waters in divine authority, yet bend close to the sinking person. Your voice carries through the wind: you are the One in whom we need not be lost.
We adore you for your cross and resurrection. You did not watch our human night from a distance, but entered the depths of death and came toward us alive to lead us home to the Father.
Holy SpiritHoly Spirit, we praise you because you guide us into truth through the fog of self-deception. You remind us of the words of Jesus and teach us to cry out honestly when our words run out.
We bless you because you carry the love of Christ through us. You give courage for integrity, compassion, and the small good that kindles light in someone else’s night.
Holy Trinity, one God, you are our rock among changing waters. Glory be to you, who guide us in truth, hold us in mercy, and send us in love. Amen.

I Reach My Hand toward You
Father, I bring you what I fear. I do not want to exaggerate it or deny it. You know the storm, and you know my heart better than I do.
Jesus, I confess that I often look at the wind and forget your nearness. When I begin to sink, do not let shame silence me. Teach me to call for help.
I give you the situation in which I want a quick and easy answer. Guard me from false comfort. Give me patience for the road on which your truth slowly makes me free.
Holy Spirit, show me where I need to walk uprightly today. Purify my words and decisions so that fear does not shape me, but the love of Christ does.
Holy Trinity, one God, I entrust to you my boat, the headwind, and the far shore. Take my hand, and make me someone who does not pass by another person who is sinking. Amen.
Carry this with you
The headwind is real, but the hand of Jesus is nearer.
